멀티미디어 통신을 가능하게 해준 기술로는 전송 매체의 대역폭 증가와 종단 시스템의 처리속도 증가를 들 수 있다. 대부분의 멀티미디어 통신은 다자간 형태를 취하고 있으나 지금까지 그룹에 대한 정의나 분류, 그에 따른 그룹 관리 기능은 상대적으로 연구가 미비한 편이었다. 또한 서비스 품질(QoS)은 응용의 시작 시에 협상되고, 그 이후는 망에서 보장하도록 하는 것이 전부였으나 통신 중에도 협상된 서비스 품질을 보장하기 위해서는 수신자의 미디어 수신 품질에 따라 송신율을 제어하는 것이 필요하다. 이에 본 논문에서는 그룹의 특성을 분석하고 이들 특성에 따라 그룹을 분류하는 방법을 제시하며, 그룹 관리 서비스 프리미티브들을 정의하고 구현한다. 다음으로 종단간 서비스 품질의 보장을 위한 미디어 관리 메카니즘을 제안하고 이를 화상회의 시스템에 적용하여 성능 평가를 하였다. 그룹 관리자와 미디어 관리자의 기능들은 모두 구현되었다.

(English Abstract) |
Two major technologies enabling the multimedia communication are increased media bandwidth, and the increased processing power of the end systems. In spite that most of the multimedia communication take the form of the multiparty, researches on the group features and group classification and group management are insufficient compared to that of processing, and transferring of the media data. Quality of service(QoS) is negotiated at connection setup time, and assumed to be guaranteed by network afterwards. But, to guarantee the negotiated QoS, it needs to control transfer rate at the sender side based on the receivers' reception report. In this paper, we propose a method to classify and manage groups according to its features. And we also present a media manager which guarantees QoS during the communication and evaluate its performance when applied to Desktop Conference System. All of the functions of the group manager and the media manager are implemented.
